I first heard Josh Woodward’s music in 2oo5 when a friend of mine played Josh’s Debut “Here Today” for me after hearing him in a Findlay Ohio coffee house. I kept up with Josh’s music starting with 2005 releases “Crawford Street” and “Sunny Side of the Street”. Even though I got these albums on their release I had not listened to them until recently. 2006 brought my favorite of Josh’s releases in the album “Only Whispering”, which is acoustic based and pure musically. 2007 brought 2 releases in the pop acoustic album “Not Quite Connected”, and the more rock based, critically acclaimed “Dirty Wings”. In 2008 Josh released a 2 part album, “The Simple Life” which was made up of an “Unashamedly Pop” part 1, and a stripped back acoustic part 2.
So why is Josh Woodward the man? Well He has done something with his music that directly contradicts the way the music industry has operated for years. Josh offers FREE Mp3 downloads of all his music from his site, legally licensed under the Creative Commons License, and will also allow you to name your own price for CDs and high quality FLAC downloads from his site. Josh’s was one of the first to do this. Its this innovation in distribution and use of the Creative Commons License in conjunction with awesome music that make Josh Woodward the man.
